They subtly ridiculed doctors who had misgivings about this approach as being out of touch or lacking compassion. They made up a phony distinction between addiction and tolerance that is not clinically relevant because it relies on the patient telling you the truth about his psychological functioning on opioids. It mischaracterized flawed studies like Porter and Jick (1980) as showing the risk of addiction as being insignificant. <br /><br />15000 deaths a year due to prescription opioids. That's 300 a week, that's a jumbo jet bursting into flames and killing everyone on board.
